Regional Innovation Is Creating Health Solutions With Global Potential

Some of the most promising solutions to healthcare challenges are being developed not in major technology hubs, but within universities, research institutions, and startup communities across Northern Luzon.

This was evident during the Go Healthy with Taiwan Innovation Challenge – North Luzon Leg, held on July 27, 2026, at Balay International, University of the Philippines Baguio.

The event brought together students, researchers, startup founders, and innovators developing technologies that address real-world health and wellness challenges. Participants represented institutions including Benguet State University, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, La Verdad Christian College, Saint Louis University, University of Baguio, University of the Cordilleras, as well as startups supported by UP Baguio.

Organized by Taiwan Excellence in partnership with SCALE NCR, the event was supported locally by UP Baguio, DOST-Cordillera Administrative Region, The FullSuite Pod, BLINC Technologies Corporation, and the Baguio Breakfast Club.

Connecting Regional Innovators to Global Opportunities

Beyond serving as a competition, the Go Healthy with Taiwan Innovation Challenge provided innovators with opportunities to connect with mentors, ecosystem builders, and international partners who can help accelerate the commercialization of their technologies.

Representing the host university, Dr. Roland Hipol, Focal Lead of the Technology Transfer and Business Development Office and Project Lead of the UPB SILBI Technology Business Incubator, emphasized UP Baguio’s commitment to connecting locally developed technologies with national and international partners.

By strengthening these connections, innovators gain greater access to mentorship, technology commercialization support, and international platforms where locally developed solutions can create broader impact.

During the opening program, DOST-CAR Regional Director Dr. Nancy A. Bantog encouraged participants to continue refining their innovations through collaboration among government, academia, industry, and communities, highlighting that meaningful innovation grows through strong partnerships rather than individual efforts alone.

Celebrating Northern Luzon’s Emerging Innovators

The regional ideathon recognized several outstanding innovations addressing health and wellness challenges.

The Top Five Innovators were:

🥇 1st Place – DaraWatch
Developed by Engr. Julius Ceasar Monico from the University of Baguio School of Information Technology, DaraWatch is an IoT-based Blood Bank Management System with Predictive Data Analysis, earning the ₱10,000 cash prize.

🥈 2nd Place – IMA
Presented by Cyber Axxol, represented by Myrdal Manzano and Reginald Denis, a startup assisted by the University of the Cordilleras Innovation and Technology Transfer Office (InTTO).

🥉 3rd Place – Period Line for Women, by Women
Developed by Chelsea Nicole Bagni, a startup supported by UP Baguio.

🏅 4th Place – KAYA
Developed by Lloyd Saysay, another startup incubated through UP Baguio.

🏅 5th Place – Shaper Robotics
Developed by Aljohn Elizer Dawal, Ramil Marcelo, and Pyar Audrey De Los Reyes, with support from the Saint Louis University Technology Transfer Office.

These innovations now have opportunities to receive further mentorship and potentially represent Northern Luzon in the Go Healthy Taiwan 2026 Global Competition.
